Modest Bathing Suits @ Creations by Savannah! {review}

 Can you believe it's summer already?! Depending on where you live, this could mean the time for swimming, pools and beach vacays has come.

What do you wear for all this? It's genuinely hard to find adequate swimwear these days. Last year, I did a swimwear post about some of the modest suits I've found. For the most part, if you want to find a modest, feminine-looking suit you have to custom-order it online, and the options can be limited sometimes. Especially when the number of companies is few.

 

But then, I discovered a new modest-swimwear business I wasn't aware of, to add to the list!

 

 Creations by Savannah!

 

 

Creations by Savannah is a small home-based business that provides different swimwear styles which are both adorable and modest. The swimsuits come in both ready-made and custom options, for girls, juniors and women. The prices are reasonable, considering the quality and amount of time (plus the fabric) that goes into making the suits.

 

Savannah generously sent me this suit to review which she'd already made. I was so excited because it just happened to fit my measurements. Took care of my needing-a-new-swimsuit-but-have-no-money-whatsoever issue! Booyah! Doesn't get much more awesome than that!

 

 

(Okay, so I posses zero modeling skills. And my farmer's tan is just plain ridiculous. Half the time if you put me in front of a camera I'll just make a weird face or do something awkward. I mean, I'm not against getting my picture taken, but I'm pretty sure I'm lacking photogenic-ness....)

 

 

The suit's construction is durable and the quality is evident. It's a two piece which makes it easy to put on and take off. The top has ruching up the sides and ends with strings you can tie. I think this is a cute effect. Reminds me of a surf top.

 

I love the fabric choice! It's really quite adorable. The fabric itself is that stretchy spandex-like swimwear fabric that dries really quick.

(One note, you have to wear a bra/bikini top underneath, because it's basically just like any other top only in swimwear fabric.)

 

I used to not like this length for swim leggings, but I've loosened up a little since then. I wouldn't go any shorter than this, and it took a little getting used to, but I like it. The skirt of course draws it all together. I really like the contrast it offers.

 

Overall, it's comfortable, classy and chic. Functionality is good except that you'd have to be careful not letting the shirt come up when doing a flip into the pool or other daring stunts. :P

 

 

Oh yeah, and I like that the top is sleeveless. Sleeves are all I've ever had on my suits. You end up getting the most predominant farmers' tans - and sunburns too, when you fail to use enough sunscreen....*cough* Okay so it's not the end of the world if you get a weird tan line, but to me it's kind of a random pet peeve thing. Anyhoo, I like sleeveless when I'm in the sun, so this is perf.

It's hard to have long hair during a typical Floridian summer. I can't leave it down or it turns into a sweat mop.

 

*is trying to conceal the fact that she's actually sweating pretty profusely - ah, a lake or pool would be nice right about now!*

 

Not sure what I was doing here. ^ Maybe it was the 105% humidity...

 

 

And then of course you have the unstrung recurve bow and arrows in the corner...yeah 'mon. *cue Caribbean/Bahamas voice*

 

The Dramatic Conclusion:

 

I absolutely love this suit! It fits perfect, looks adorable and isn't lacking on comfort or practicality. Best of all, it covers everything that I feel needs to be covered! I can see myself even purchasing another one in a different print/style, at some point. Definitely recommend this business and give it a double thumbs up! I have no complaints at all. Nothing. Zip. Zilch. Nada.

What Makes You Think You're Modest?

 Hey girls! I've been gone for a really longgg time. I now offer my deepest apologies. :) I have some product reviews to do, but they aren't quite ready yet.

 

 So today I'm going to talk a little bit on What Makes You Think You're Modest? Ooh.

 No matter how you dress, there will always be someone who dresses "more modest" then you do.

You might wear short sleeves and pants, but someone else might only wear long sleeved dresses. So you may often run into the question from people who might be offended by your stand, or just curious.

 I have a pretty fun story. I just got home from my church's camp a few days ago. (I'll be going to another pretty soon.) Anyway, I have a modest swimsuit. It's called a culotte swimmer, and is rather like a wetsuit, with some water safe light fabric over top. It has sleeves, and culotte legs which are like a skirt almost with the space for your legs, but they are closed off. (I'll have to post some pics next week or something. ) Anyway, our camp has the rule that you have to be covered on your way to the pool for girl's swim time. I was working as an assistant cabin leader for the little girls. So they were all pulling on T-shirts, and wrapping towels around their waist, and I was just wearing my swimsuit, casually hanging my towel over my arm. I had made myself expect to receive a few weird stares, and questions. But the little girls were the sweetest. They did ask me about my swimsuit. I explained that I liked to have a more modest bathing suit because, not only did I swim with girls at camp, but sometimes I visit the beach with my brother-in-law's family, which includes several boys. So I didn't see the point in having a bathing suit I could only wear once a year, and have to wear T-shirts and culottes at the beach. To my surprise, the little girls were actually impressed and... jealous! "You're so lucky," one said. "You don't have to wear anything over your bathing suit!" Because of the nature of my bathing suit I didn't cover up like the girls because it wasn't necessary. :)

 But not everyone is like an eight or eleven year old girl. There will be those who might not dress the way you did who feel offended because they think you're saying they aren't modest. This will spark the question, "What makes you think you're modest?"

 I always try to avoid offending anyone. Just because I may dress a certain way, and everything because of a personal decision I've made between God and myself, doesn't mean I'm constantly judging others. Even if I don't approve of what someone is wearing, I'm not going to point it out to them because I know this will only hurt their feelings or offend them, and then I'll never be able to reach them.

 But if you do come into contact with someone who instantly judges you for dressing more "modestly" then them, just explain that you are trying to follow what the Bible says about modesty, and follow God the best you can. Don't say anything that would provide another area of attack for your jilted friend/acquaintance.

 Just pray about it to the Lord, and He will help you when dealing with the "What makes you think you're modest?" people. :)

What I Wore to The Beach + My Swimwear Story {ClassyGarb}

 

Aloha, ladies!

(Haha, I never actually say aloha, but since this is a post about the beach, well, what could be a better way to start it off?)

 

So, my family and I just returned from our weeklong summer vacation and I wasn't feeling very inspired on what to write or post today. It's always difficult to get back into the flow and swing of things when you've been completely off-schedule for a whole week, you know? While I had several encounters at the beach which gave me ideas on things I might want to write about sometime in the future, (think stalkers, the consequences of both modesty and immodesty, etc) none appealed for today. So instead of a full-fledged article, here's a make-shift outfit post.

 

A while back, we had a post on modest swimsuits and it made me want to do something furthering the topic, since in my short life so far I've already gone through a number of various 'modest swimwear' and have had the chance to somewhat 'review' each one as I had it.  Okay, well duh. If you possess something *of course* you have 'the chance to 'review' it'...that wasn't a terrific way to get my point across, I know.

 

Anyway. My swimwear story. So this swimsuit I currently have, I really like. You can see where I'm wearing it in these pictures, above and below. I bought it two years ago from Meant to be Modest, and had it custom made to my measurements. I had the leggings lengthened to just above ankle length, because at the time I ordered it I was really obsessive about not letting my legs be visible at all. (My views have changed concerning that, since then, and now I'm okay with my calves being visible. I rolled up the leggings a little in these photos.)

 

It's amazing how much your views and standards can change in several years, or throughout your lifetime. I don't really understand why I was so concerned about my lower legs showing, but I do think it was a bit too much.

 

This is me, with my lovely mother, who got her swimsuit from Swim-Modest. That was actually where I got my very first modest swimsuit, at about age 10. (Before that, I wore one pieces and even bikinis/tankinis as a very young girl...back then I had no idea about modesty and even if I had known, I was completely lacking any form of self-consciousness, being just a little kid.) I liked it for a while, but then I wanted more coverage on my legs so Mom and I started investigating other options. We then found Simply Modest., got a pattern, and some sweet friends of ours, actually Evangela and her mother/sisters, had some fabric already on hand and they helped sew me my suit, which turned out beautiful.

And here is the first Meant to be Modest suit I got, in 2010. I liked this one a whole lot and was sad when I wore it out. (literally)

 

Back to the present again, I would very much recommend Meant to be Modest. Their suits are very comfortable and practical, plus they look cute! I literally can do any sports activity in this suit. I can do flips and cannonballs into the pool without anything coming up which needs to stay down. I can run, climb trees, body surf, you name it...and during the entire time, I don't have to worry about looking or feeling immodest.

 

I think that they next time I order from them I will ask for shorter leggings and perhaps sleeveless bodice, because the only negative is the awkward tan lines I get wearing this...e.g., my shoulders remain all white while the rest of my arm gets tan. I wear tank tops relatively often, so you can imagine how this looks rather...funny, to say in the least. 

 

These swimsuits last a while though. I bought my current one (the blue floral one above) two years ago as I already stated, and it's still practically brand-new despite all the wear it's gotten. After 3-4 years, depending on the usage, the suit material will start to stretch out and become faded, but it also depends on how you take care of the suit. And this one has double lining on the bodice, so it should be a long while before it stretches out bad enough for me to get a new one entirely.  

 

So, while I was at the beach my cousin got some pictures of me at our annual family picnic/reunion. I figured I'd post them because this is one of my new favorite summer outfits and I thought y'all might like to see it.

 

I really like this blouse. It's so summer-y and I love the color scheme.

 

I just loved this view! It was so cool, the trees and shoreline combined like this.

 

My hair was a mess, because it was hot out, yet quite breezy. And in this last photo I had actually just gotten my face painted...Don't laugh.
