Hiking *with modesty and femininity*

So, this post almost didn't happen this week....because my photographer ( my sister ) has been out of town the last couple weeks.

But then I remebered, I do have other pictures..... ;)

This summer I did A LOT of hiking.

It's one of those things that you don't like to wear much....yet should haha.

First time climbing a mountain ( a small one ). In Colorado. I think my face shows it :)

Pink and green go great together ❤ ;)

Cotton skirts aren't the best for hiking :)

Perfect hiking skirt :D

Always have the water bottle handy!!!

Loved hiking with this girl!!!

The water bottle is the most essential item of the hiker's outfit!

1. Practical
If you notice, I'm wearing no jewelry, nothing extra, ( well, some would consider the skirt extra, lolol ), just what I need to make a hike.

I'm also wearing leggings under my skirt so I can practically climb, slide, run, and such with out worry or unnecessary added caution ( of my skirt flying up! Haha ).

2. Pretty

Skirt. Colorful shirts.

I didn't feel like adding any other "pretty".

Haha. No, but seriously, when hiking, this is when the practical side plays heavier.

The most important thing is confidence in appearance. If you feel like your outfit is pretty ( be it ever so simple ) it will appear to be pretty to everyone :D Truth. So, just smile, for when you hike, that's the only jewelry you need :D.

3. Comfortable
Cotton knit shirts.

Stretchy denim skirts ( with out to much extra fabric ).

Breathable leggings.

Lightweight shoes with a nice arch.

Hair back in a secure ponytail.

Comfort also plays a huge role in my decision for dressing when hiking :).

Outfits

Hat: Knitted myself
Shirts: Thrift
Skirts: Thrift
Leggings: Wal-Mart
Shoes: My dad found then somewhere:b

And don't forget the water bottle!!!!!!! Or you'll end up gasping for WATER! Haha ;)

I dress similar to this, also, when doing things like caving/ other active or dirty activities. Just might add a jacket and mud boots :D

So, what do you all think? Is the skirt a bit excessive? I must admit I got quite a few looks about that, lol....and compliments. :D

More than Modest

Hey, everyone! I hope you are having a fantastic weekend ( or whatever day it is that you are reading this ).

Modesty.

It's one of those tricky (stupid, it often seems) things.

To dress or not to dress.

( Or how much should I "over dress"? )

I've seen a lot of different opinions on this.

Mostly it seems that the issue of modesty is over stressed.

-Not saying "Modesty is in my heart, not how I dress" illogical stupidness.-

I'm saying that dressing "holy", like Amish or "modest trash" isn't the solution either.

Most of those sort of people forget to make allowance to the fact that we are girls and need to dress accordingly.

Men and women both need to dress differently, not to make one more or less inferior to the other, but because they are both different.

But how can one dress both modestly and femininely? Is it even  possible?

Some would say not.

(In my opinion) Modesty rules are stupid. Because there will always be some way to break them, abuse them or over make them.

But then, here I am, about to present my own "modesty rules" :D.

Since I still live at home I still have certain dress rules I have to follow....like skirts, sleeves, dress length, etc...

But I do believe we should have our own personal guidelines for dressing, so we don't fall to either extreme of dressing (sloppy or nothing).

I have three guidelines.

And they are very simple. Not one of the three are more or less important. If all three work together they will spell out both "modesty" and femininity, yet not once in the three will I mention modesty for the fun of it ;)

Remember these are just my own guidelines. Not neccessarily "the way",  but they might give someone some good ideas :).

1. It's gotta be practical.

Though I said none were more or less important, this one almost breaks that, by ALMOST being the most important of the three.

When I say practical, I mean practical according to the occasion.

Like don't go wearing chore clothes to a dance. ( Even if you can make them look groovy :b ).

Or a fancy gown to milk the goats. ( BTW, I made both of these dresses ;b ).

I'll wear a cotton, full skirt for horse-back riding, but a tight, denim skirt for bicycling.

I'll wear short sleeves when it's hot, a jacket when it's not.

A swimming dress for swimming, pajamas for sleeping.

It's got to work for what I'm doing or where I'm at. :D

2. Pretty as can be.

Here's where you add your personality and femininity.

Of course remember to be practical.

Say I'm hiking. I won't be wearing fancy boots or jewelry. But I can still add color by wearing a pink t-shirt.

My skirt won't be gauze or satin...but it can still be a decent skirt.

( Also, part of being "practical" will be thinking what I'll be doing. So, if I'm hiking in a skirt I'll wear leggings underneath so I can move over and through stuff comfortably.)

Things I consider "pretty" - color, scarves, lace, hats, jewelry, style, etc.

3. Comfortable for sanity's same.

Keep it practical. Keep it pretty. And remember to stay comfortable.

Of course, being comfortable doesn't mean dressing in a sack. That wouldn't be pretty.

But it definitely wouldn't be dressing like a whore. That wouldn't be practical.

For my graduation I wore a fancy dress (pictured above).

It was both pretty and practical to the occasion. Even though it was tight and the fabric wasn't just the most comforting fabric, it was a comfortable dress that I could MOVE in and DO things  in WHILE EATING and BREATHING with ease.

For everyday wear I won't wear something like that. I stick with softer fabrics and a looser fit for comfort's and practicality's sakes.

Yet, I still keep it pretty some how.

And so that's it. If it is practical, pretty and comfortable I wear it. And for me that is how I dress modestly and femininely all at once.

What do you think? What are your personal rules for dressing modestly or femininely? What do you think of my three tips?

( I think I'll do a series of blog posts, explaining how I put these three tips into my every day life, what do you think :D )

Wearing Your Hair in a Scarf

Lol 😝 How many people are crazy enough to dress this way - on a a normal basis, and in public?

 Me. 😉

I am rather weird in my tastes. I like wild, comfy, pretty, easy, crazy, fancy, practical all wrapped in one. - Those are some of my favorite words, too ;).

I get some crazy results :D Such as this new thing with my hair ( I've been doing it about 6 months now ).

I first did it in this picture - wanting something unique and pretty for a girls' party I was going to, I suddenly thought of braiding a ribbon into my hair. A close friend, Esther helped me! ( Never knowing how crazy I'd become weeks later ).

The ribbon was soon replaced with a scarf :)

At first I would just wrap the scarf around my head, tie it under my pony tail and then over. And then I just let it hang or braid it loosely into my hair.

For a wilder, looser look I just tie it under the pony tail [If the scarf has tassels it will add length to your hair :D ]

But the scarf does like to fall off the top of my head to my back quite often - especially at youth group. 😒 So, I bought some dark colored hair clips about 1 and 1/2 inches long and snap one on each side of the top of my head and scarf.

Keeps the scarf there 😀

For the ribbon variation I tie the center of the ribbon to a dark colored pony tail holder ( hairband ), make my hair up into a pony tail and then braid the ribbon into my hair tightly.

And now for the pictures!!! 😍

Stripes and Knit ( Outfit Post )

Hey, you all!!!!

This is a fun outfit I wore to church this last week. It has a couple of great things about it.

1. It's comfortable. ( Pretty much the whole outfit is knit! )

2. It's pretty.

3. I was able to incorporate my hippie look :) :).

I found the skirt on sale at Ross's and thought it was so gorgeous!!! ( secret: it was in the maternity section 😛 ).

Knit skirts are in right now ( I think. )

They are just so fun and comfortable and I can mix-match so many different outfits out of this skirt.

My hand is rather awkward looking, but who cares ;)

And a cute kitty!!!! :D

My hair was so fun to do! I tied a scarf under the back, pulled a generous amount of side hair through, and let it all hang.

Fast and dramatic :D.

Outfit:
Shirt: Thrift
Skirt: Ross's
Tank top: hand-me-down
Vest: hand-me-down
Shoes: yard sale
Necklace: made
Bangles: Plato's Closet
Scarf: Dollar Store

As you can see, this outfit came from allover the place!!! Has variation ;).

So, what do you all think? Share about your own fun knit outfits in the comments!

Denim And Feminine ( Fashion Post )

Hey, you all! I'm new to this blog - and since I'm new I should do this really awesome, unique post in fashion!!!😃

I should....

And I will....sometime after this post 😛. I promise, after this one I will try to do some really great ones.

But joining suddenly like this, I didn't take the time to prepare a longer post..so, yeah... :)

So, a little about me -  I am Keturah and 19. I was homeschooled, I live in Montana, I love writing and reading, and there are a lot of crazy things about me - too much to list off, but some of which you can read about at my blog or on Facebook.

When it comes to clothes I'm opinionated, in a free manner of speaking, lol!

I believe girls should dress pretty, practical and comfortable and that all three of those are equally important.

You can't have one without the other. And having all three should spell out modesty ;)

And I love denim. Its just so comfortable and practical - and pretty!

Cheap is vital for most girls I know  - meaning most will end up dressing "trashy" because they can't afford to dress up.

That's why I like thrift stores!!!

The hardest thing to find at thrift stores are nice skirts or dresses.

But you can find them!

This skirt was such an exciting find for me. Both of the shirts were found at thrift stores also.

One of the great things about denim skirts - they don't take much to dress up. As you can see, a colorful shirt and necklace does the trick for me.

Outfit #1:
Skirt: Thrifted
Shirt: Thrifted
Tank top: Wal-Mart
Necklace: Made
Bracelet: Plato's Closet
Flipflops: Thrifted

Outfit #2:
Skirt: Thrifted
Shirt: Thrifted
Tank top: Thrifted
Hair: Ribbon from Jo-Ann's braided into my hair

So, what do you all think? Like wearing denim skirts as well?

Voice Remedy {Product Review}

Okay, so this review is actually a different sort than I've done before, but one I'm probably more excited about than some others. I'm reviewing Sprouts Voice Remedy and I received it in exchange for my honest review.

I've probably referenced before but I love singing, musical theater, and performance. I also love to sing to glorify God. But one thing that can happen no matter how careful you are when singing is vocal wear. If you use your voice a lot over a period of time it will start to wear out and sometimes it is good to have something to help you out. That's why I was excited to review this remedy.

As you can see it comes in a dark glass bottle with a stopper. The stuff smells pretty nasty to me. Which is normal for typical voice sprays.
It is a really strong scent that I'm pretty sure has to do with the herbs it contains.

The taste isn't a whole lot better. Sort of a weird mix between sweet and bitter, but it's not something one couldn't get used to, and like I said, it's basically the norm for vocal remedies.

I used this when my voice felt worn and it definitely did help with the soreness. I can see this stuff coming in handy next time I'm in a show, or even when I'm at a church event where I have to sing a lot. Even though its taste isn't the most pleasant, its uses outweigh its tastes and it isn't so bad, really.

The one thing I have to say is that I think the company should try to convert to spray bottles instead of droppers. The problem with the droppers is you have to drop twenty-five drops down your throat and that can be pretty nasty/take a while. A spray bottle can be used rather quickly and efficiently, so that is what I recommend. Otherwise, a very nice product with helpful voice ingredients. If you are a singer or have a job where you speak a lot, I would definitely recommend looking into a voice remedy. Here it is on Amazon.

Anaiti {Product Review}

Today will be a bit of a posting blitz because without realizing it, I have several reviews to do today! So that's interesting. To get this thing cracking, I'm going to start with a double review. I'll be reviewing Anaiti's Age-Defying Face Cream and New Instant Wrinkle Smoothing Serum. I received these in exchange for my honest review.

So here's a photo. You also get to see part of my bathroom counter and toothbrush holder (as well as my little glass bottle haha.) Anywho, this is some nice stuff. It retails for $49.99. (See it on Amazon.)

I gave it to my mom since she always likes to claim the wrinkle stuff. She's almost sixty now, but she looks great for her age, so... But I borrowed it to write my own evaluation (with some added thoughts from her.)

The container is a sturdy metal. The lotion inside is very light, which I appreciate. I tend to dislike overly thick face lotions especially. This lotion is light so that when you apply it, you don't /feel/ like there is something weighing on your face.

My brother describes this scent as creamy, which is weird since he really doesn't know what he's talking about haha. I would describe it as a sort of floral toned scent, though it isn't too strong. Just a sort of refreshing scent to it. My mom gives it her stamp of approval and plans to keep using it.

The cream has several ingredients to it that add to its skin work. Hyaluronic Acid, which is basically a great moisturizer, Renovage, which lessens pigmentation,  and Matrixl, which according to the company can reduce wrinkles up to 68%. The company also lists increased elasticity/skin hydration, loss of pigmentation/wrinkles, and smaller pores as results of this product.

As you can see it's a pretty nice product.

Now onto the serum! As you can see this bottle is taller and has a pump. It is also more liquid/gel as it is
a serum instead of a cream. You can also see one of my favorite decorations which is a little artistic scripture in the background haha.

The serum has the same scent as the cream, though instead of a light feeling, it is a bit more elastic. My mom likes this one as well. In some ways it is similar to to the cream, but some ways it is different.

It is a vitamin C rejuvenating serum with the same Renovage and Matrixl that the other has. It seems to have some good benefits such as UV protection and wrinkle reducing, etc. It is great for using under the eyes for dark circles, crow's feet, etc.  It is, just like the first item I reviewed, a good quality product and it retails a bit higher on Amazon. Though currently it is on sale for $39.99.

 Thanks for reading!
